Judge Napolitano: Obama Wants Shutdown to Be as Painful as Possible

Judge Andrew Napolitano stopped by Fox & Friends to discuss the controversy surrounding WWII vets being denied entry into the D.C. memorial due to the government shutdown.Then again, the judge pointed out that the shutdown hasn't stopped surveillance operations at the NSA.

With some help from members of Congress, the elderly vets eventually did bypass the barricades, but Napolitano believes President Obama wanted this shutdown because it helps him politically.

Like with the sequester, Napolitano said the Obama administration wants the shutdown to be as painful as possible, and has the ability to "increase the pain or decrease the pain" on the American people.

Shutting Down government to keep a POS piece of "legislation" from making the economy even worse, is not about keeping people from getting healthcare. Last time I checked if you need care, you can go to an emergency room and get taken care of. U.S. Failure To Lift Debt Ceiling Could Damage World Says IMF

Failure to raise the U.S. debt ceiling could damage not only the United States but the rest of the global economy, International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde said on Thursday (October 3).

"It is 'mission-critical' that this be resolved as soon as possible," she said in a speech in Washington, ahead of the IMF and World Bank annual meetings next week.

She said growth in the United States has already been hurt by too much fiscal consolidation, and will be below 2 percent this year before rising by about 1 percentage point in 2014.

The U.S. Congress imposed a so-called sequester, or across the board government spending cuts, earlier this year after failing to agree on a broad budget package.

Turning to the rest of the world, Lagarde pointed to signs of progress in the euro zone and Japan, but said transitions to more stable growth may take a while. The turbulence could reduce GDP in major emerging markets by 0.5 to 1 percentage points, she said.

Lagarde said emerging markets have suffered since the U.S. Federal Reserve announced plans to eventually scale back its own monetary stimulus, which prompted capital outflows as investors bet on higher rates in advanced economies.

Speaking to her audience in broader terms, Lagarde said that five years after the world averted a "second Great Depression," economies are undergoing "multiple new transitions" that may take a decade or longer for many countries to adjust to before there is a full recovery.

She said two kinds of economic transitions stand out in particular -- changes in the patterns of economic growth and a move toward a new kind of financial sector.

"The new rules are changing the economics of banking," said Lagarde. "It is likely that some of the largest banking institutions will not do as much by way of financing infrastructure projects, for instance, or project financing or mortgage lending."

Finally, Lagarde called on governments to better work together on reforming the financial sector, calling progress too slow, partly due to divergences among different countries. She pointed in particular to the "danger zone" of shadow banking, or the non-banking sector that is not under formal regulation.

In the United States, shadow banking is twice the size of the banking sector, and in China half the credit given this year has come from shadow banking, she said.

Rush Limbaugh: Dana Bash Was on Harry Reid's Side Before He Insulted Her

10/3/13 - Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh dug into controversial comments made by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) on Wednesday in response to a question from CNN reporter Dana Bash. Reid called Bash "irresponsible" and "reckless" after asking if the Senate would pass a special bill to restore funding to the National Institutes of Health amid a government shutdown. Limbaugh asserted that Bash, who was sympathetic to Reid's position, was made less so by the senator's comment.

"The House is presumably going to pass a bill that funds at least the NIH. Given what you've said, will you at least pass that?" Bash asked in the question which set Reid off. "And if not, aren't you playing the same political games that Republicans are?"

"Even in her question, she savaged the Republicans," Limbaugh said. "The premise is that Republicans were playing political games with the lives of children. How much more biased could you get?"

"She is totally on his side throughout this question, except when she says 'If you can help one child who has cancer why wouldn't you do that?'" the host continued.

"The media tells everybody that it's the Republicans who have no heart, it's the Republicans who hate women -- war on women, kids, minorities, you name it -- it's the Republicans who are trying to fund these programs after the Democrats shut this whole process down," Limbaugh insisted.

He played a clip of Reid telling liberal radio host Bill Press that the trap the GOP had set for him was to fund every aspect of the government separately in order to remove funding from the Affordable Care Act.

"This is a mean, vindictive, partisan little man," Limbaugh declared.

10/3/13 - Libertarian Fox Business host John Stossel on Thursday asserted that the partial government shutdown was a "good thing" and that lawmakers should "shut more down." In a segment on Fox & Friends, Stossel argued that some parts of the government should stay shutdown forever. "I'm hoping the shutdown will wake people up and say, hey, maybe we don't need all this stuff," he said. "We could close whole departments. Why do we need a Commerce Department? Commerce just happens, government gets in the way." "Education, why do we need that at the federal level?" Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy chimed in. "Because it's mainly done at the local level."

Stossel also pointed to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and said that 93 percent of those employees were not necessary "for at least a year."

"Nobody will know, the Earth won't notice a difference if you shut the EPA for 10 years," he insisted.

The Fox Business host asked viewers to tune into his to his show so he could show them "how this could be a good thing, how with less government, people are freer because we have more, we'll create the jobs and we'll invent the good things."

"So, you're pro-shutdown?" co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked.

"Yeah," Stossel replied. "Shut more down!"
