Fallout continues from Fukushima





A series of accidents at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has chipped away at Tokyo Electric Power Company's credibility, making it likely that the Japanese government will have to step in further. Yet in the end, argues the FT's Asia editor David Pilling, Japan's long-term power deficit makes it likely that more of the country's nuclear power plants will be switched back on.

X1.7 Solar Flare - October 25, 2013





MAJOR X-CLASS SOLAR FLARE
A major X-Class solar flare peaking to X1.7 was registered from newly numbered Sunspot 1882 at 08:01 UTC this morning. Associated with this major event was a 10cm Radio Burst (TenFlare) lasting 24 minutes and measuring 610 solar flux units (SFU). A large coronal mass ejection (CME) is now visible in the latest LASCO imagery and looks to have a possible Earth directed component.
