The US Congress says President Barack Obama's plans for the country's nuclear arsenal will cost 355 billion dollars over the next decade.
The Congressional Budget Office has issued a report saying the expenses will cover the modernization of nuclear weapons, their delivery systems, and nuclear weapons production laboratories. The CBO report also said the cost is nearly one hundred and 50 billion dollars more than the administration's initial request last year. The US president claims the nuclear modernization plan is needed to boost the security of the US military and give political leaders enough confidence in nuclear talks with other world powers. The new nuclear budget request comes as US officials continue to wrangle over the country's rising budget deficit.

William Clark Styron, Jr. (June 11, 1925 -- November 1, 2006) was an
American novelist and essayist who won major literary awards for his
work.
For much of his career, Styron was best known for his novels, including:
Lie Down in Darkness (1951), his acclaimed first novel, published at age 26;
The Confessions of Nat Turner (1967), narrated by Nat Turner, the leader of an 1831 Virginia slave revolt;
Sophie's Choice (1979), a story "told through the eyes of a young aspiring writer from the South, about a Polish Catholic survivor of Auschwitz and her brilliant but troubled Jewish lover in postwar Brooklyn".
In 1985, he suffered his most serious bout with depression. Out of this grave and menacing experience, he was later able to write the memoir Darkness Visible (1990), the work Styron became best known for during the last two decades of his life.
In an episode of the television series Cheers titled "Thanksgiving Orphans" (this episode first aired in 1986), Styron is mentioned as an esteemed guest of a Thanksgiving party hosted by one of Diane Chambers' literature professors. Styron and other guests at the party are expected to recreate the first Thanksgiving.

Although he is remembered primarily for Catch-22, his other works center on the lives of various members of the middle class and remain examples of modern satire.

was a professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia
University, a literary theorist, and a public intellectual who was a
founding figure of the critical-theory field of Post-colonialism. Born a
Palestinian Arab in the city of Jerusalem in Mandatory Palestine
(1920--48), he was an American citizen through his father. Said was an
advocate for the political and the human rights of the Palestinian
people and has been described by the journalist Robert Fisk as their
most powerful voice.
As a cultural critic, academic, and writer, Said is best known for the book Orientalism (1978), an analysis of the cultural representations that are the bases of Orientalism, a term he redefined to mean the Western study of Eastern cultures and, in general, the framework of how The West perceives and represents The East. He contended that Orientalist scholarship was, and remains, inextricably tied to the imperialist societies that produced it, which makes much of the work inherently political, servile to power, and therefore intellectually suspect. Orientalism is based upon Said's knowledge of colonial literature, literary theory, and post-structuralist theory. Orientalism, and his other thematically related works, proved influential in the fields of the humanities, especially in literary theory and in literary criticism. Orientalism proved especially influential upon the field of Middle Eastern studies, wherein it transformed the academic discourse of the field's practitioners, of how they examine, describe, and define the cultures of the Middle East. As a critic, he vigorously discussed and debated the cultural subjects comprised by Orientalism, especially as applied to and in the fields of history and area studies; nonetheless, some mainstream academics disagreed with Said's Orientalism thesis, most notably the Anglo-American Orientalist Bernard Lewis.
As a public intellectual, Said discussed contemporary politics and culture, literature and music in books, lectures, and articles. Drawing from his family experiences as Palestinian Christians in the Middle East at the time of the establishment of Israel in 1948, Said argued for the establishment of a Palestinian state, for equal political and human rights for the Palestinians in Israel—including the right of return—and for increased U.S. political pressure upon Israel to recognize, grant, and respect said rights. Moreover, he also criticized the political and cultural politics of the Arab and Muslim regimes who acted against the interests of their peoples. In December 2010, descendants of Edwin Booth reported that they obtained permission to exhume the Shakespearean actor's body to obtain DNA samples. However, Bree Harvey, a spokesperson from the Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Edwin Booth is buried, refuted reports that the family had contacted them and requested to exhume Edwin's body. The family hopes to obtain DNA samples from artifacts belonging to John Wilkes, or from remains such as vertebrae stored at the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Maryland. On March 30, 2013, museum spokesperson Carol Johnson announced the family's request to exhume DNA from the vertebrae had been rejected.

When the Federal Reserve announces its next move on Wednesday, some expect it to reduce its $85 billion monthly bond-buying program, targeting an eventual end to quantitative easing in late 2014. Others expect the Fed to begin to reduce the program in early 2014, or to finish it off by 2015. But Marc Faber has a different take altogether .
"The economic recovery, or so-called recovery, by June of next year, will be in the fifth year of the recovery," Faber said. "So at some stage the economy will weaken again, and at that point, the Fed will argue, 'Well, we haven't done enough, we have to do more.'"

The Mentality Of An Off Gridder Prepare Yourself For The Move Off Grid
During the weekend I had a talk with Link Knight from youtube about the
mentality of an off gridder. We discussed the mental preparations that
are necessary for someone who is considering going off the grid.

Taking that first step into energy independence can be a bit scary. The two of us have both taken the plunge fully into off grid living. Some people go off the grid step by step as budget or other situations allow.
If you are afraid to just jump ahead and go off the grid or your budget will not allow it then simply start slowly with a simple small solar panel and a few LED lights. Build up your system as finances allow and eventually you will be off the grid. This is one way to get your home off the grid with less stress.
There is not problem with taking the plunge as Link and I did though. It requires a bit of mental preparation first. You also do not need to be rich to do it. We both were thrown into our situation suddenly and unprepared. We both had to start out with very little and work out way up to a more comfortable living level as budget allowed.
Living off the grid requires a bit of a lifestyle adjustment as well. You have to learn how to use energy and water sparingly. There will no longer be unlimited energy and water at your fingertips. But the tradeoff is that you need never suffer a sudden and unexpected power outage again. Your own energy needs will be in your control.
A move to energy saving appliances is also necessary for budget off grid living. This can be things such as switching to LED light bulbs, a top open fridge or converted freezer and learning how to replace your power hungry appliances with old fashioned ways such as trading the slow cooker for a dutch oven.
Getting off the grid gives you a sense of freedom and peace.
Anyone can do it.
