FOMC Review: Gold & SIlver Smackdown On QE4 Announcement

The paper silver markets are good for one thing....making short term profit. I short silver tons as the "smackdowns" (99% of the time due to market falling or dollar strengthening) are extremely easy to spot. I then take that profit from shorting and add to my stack, of course at the cheaper price :)

Guatemalans Resist Invasion of North American Mines

In November we traveled to Guatemala to study Spanish and learn about the lives of the indigenous Maya people. Guatemala is an amazingly beautiful country, with countless mountains and valleys, and 22 volcanoes, the most in Central America. The people are very friendly and good humored. Traditional Mayan culture, mostly observed in the colorful dress of the Mayan women, lives side by side with modernity. Picture a traditionally dressed indigenous peasant woman tending her cattle and sheep on a hillside pasture. Now watch her pull a cell phone out of her skirt to call her children. We are not just Spanish students and certainly not “tourists” in the usual sense. We are active members of Veterans For Peace, and we are very concerned about the U.S. role in Central America. The legacy of the 36-year war waged by the Guatemalan military against its indigenous people is everywhere. A peace agreement was signed in 1996, but many people we met, especially in the mountainous Mayan communities, told us the war continues – through discrimination, poverty, lack of voice in government, and now the systematic destruction of their communities in favor of gold and silver mining, hydroelectric dams, cement plants and oil exploration.

Silver - The Opportunity Of A Decade

Silver is increasingly seen as an undervalued asset and its strong consolidation levels around $30 to $33 are seen as a buying opportunity by many. As more people become aware of the multiple aspects of demand for silver - from industrial to monetary - the silver market once again will become accepted in the financial community as an investment in a similar vein as gold. As more analysts begin to look at silver, the market may be acknowledging the scarcity and affordability of silver in comparison to gold.

2013 Silver Chinese Panda - Mintage, Best Price, Where To Buy

Up close and personal: Inspecting 1 oz, 999 Fine Silver Coin, 2013 Chinese Panda.

If you're looking for a semi-numismatic play for 2013, look no further. Buying the 2013 Chinese Panda coin while silver prices remain low is a great strategy for people who are interested in these premium coins. The reason the Chinese Panda is such an amazing semi-numismatic coin is because every year a new design gets released. The moment that happens, all the coins that have previously been released instantly become more rare and collectable. To illustrate my point, please take a quick look at the APMEX page for Chinese Pandas and look back at what the previous designs are selling for. As you can see, all of the previous years have an added semi-numismatic premium which grows as the years march forward. This is the main reason why investors go absolutely NUTS over these coins, not to mention how the Chinese Mint has increased Panda production 1233% in less than two years. In 2010, annual mintage figures were a mere 600,000 only to skyrocket to 6 million in 2011. The Mint is currently projecting the 2013 mintage to match 2012 at 8 million coins annually produced. All the Mint is doing is keeping up with the absolutely exploding investor demand in China and Hong Kong at the moment for physical gold and silver.

Silver Prices in the Event of a Comex Default

By Dr. Jeffrey Lewis January 4, 2013

If and when the Comex silver market implodes, so should the paper market for silver. Nevertheless, can this happen and will it happen?

Also, if a Comex default does occur, what are the likely scenarios and aftermath that will impact silver traders and the price of silver? The following sections explore the increasingly likely possibility of a Comex default in further detail.

Inability to Deliver Physical Silver
Perhaps the most likely scenario of a Comex “default” would involve the inability to deliver physical silver into its futures contracts due to a pronounced and protracted physical metal shortage.

In this case, those holding paper certificates instead of actual physical silver will probably be settled at the cash value of their position once the physical delivery problem finally comes to a head.

At this point, trading in silver futures on the Comex will probably also be halted temporarily while the market figures out the real price of physical silver.

Jim Rogers: GOLD is going to go much higher because the world is doing nothing but printing money

Jim Rogers: I own gold and I own silver. I own all the precious metals, especially gold and silver. I'm not sure I would buy right now. Gold has gone up 12 years in a row, which is extremely unusual for any asset, at least in my experience. I don't know any asset that's gone up 12 years without a down year except gold. Gold has had only one decline over 30 percent in those 12 years. That, too, is extremely unusual.
Plus, if you look at the open interest from the CFTC, the speculators have been piling into gold. The number of call options is more than twice the put options. All the signs are that there's too much speculation in gold right now.
I'm not selling, by any stretch. I own it. If it goes down, I'll buy more. If America bombs Iran, I'll probably buy more going up. But I own it and, over the longer term, gold is going to go much higher because the world is doing nothing but printing money. And when the world economies get bad again, they're going to print even more money. But I'm not buying now.

2013 Silver Chinese Panda - Mintage, Best Price, Where To Buy

I ordered mine today well we are in this dip and will be buying more next month as well. This is one of my favorite bullion rounds on the market along side the Kookaburras and Canadian Maples....and the 2013 Kookaburra is a good deal too!

This video explains why I'm advocating buying the 2013 Chinese Panda as a semi-numismatic play for the upcoming year. Physical silver is a long-term safe haven

It is not a secret that silver is much better long-term investment than gold. This is attributed to the more diversified use of the white metal, its current low price and optimistic future prognosis. Investing in silver futures for the short term has certain risks which could be positive or negative – almost like gambling. If you are a safe-player investor type, than consider the physical silver investment opportunities. Bearing in mind that the long-term takes an extend of more than five years, placing cash assets into physical silver is a step which is positively proven by several factors and has almost no risk. In September 2011, the metal’s price soared to $50 and analysts still speculate with that data. The significant here is that this bullish market then, was not a tendency, but a single day phenomenon and it affected only the contracts for future delivery. On the physical silver market the traders were purchasing silver at about $35 per ounce while selling the commodity at $50 per ounce. It is important to stay calm and think in perspective, because one-day events are called incidents and they mean nothing to the long term period where the physical silver rules. Firm evidence can be found in stable market factors that benefit the silver bullion prices trough the future periods. A growing need of the global industry will always support the physical silver price as securities cannot be used for water purification, solar-power generation, coin emissions, specialized medicine and other important sectors.

2013: $26 or $40 Silver? 2012 Predictions Right?

This video recaps 2012 forecasts and delivers expectations for 2013. People are simply selling off their winners before the year is over, it is not uncommon for this to happen. Add in the fiscal cliff tax uncertainty and TADA you have a selloff. Come January they will re-establish their positions. Warning: No profit, loss, or any change in financial values is guaranteed in this video.

More Signs of Silver Bullion Shortage

“This is the definition of a silver shortage – nothing to do with the physical amount of the substance being in deficit, but people’s psychological intention not to sell. The extent to which a shortage is developing is witnessed by the extent of backwardation.”
That’s what Ned-Naylor Neyland wrote in a recent commentary (thanks to GATA for bringing it to our attention). He is the Investment Director at Cheviot Asset Management, one of the UK’s largest independently owned investment firms. His commentary was triggered by the decision of the London Bullion Markets Association (LBMA) to cut the reporting on the Silver Forward Rate on the 2nd of November, playing it down as “only indicative rates and therefore not dealable rates between forward Market Makers.”
Clearly, Ned-Naylor Neyland holds another opinion. He is monitoring the Silver Basis & Co-Basis (by Sandeep Jaitly) and it showed a huge anomaly more or less at the same moment of the LBMA’s decision. That kind of behaviour points to strong backwardation, a signal of silver shortage (based on the earlier mentioned definition).   - via http://www.marketoracle.co.uk/Article37865.html

Marc Faber : I own Gold. It's my biggest position in my life. The possibility of the Gold Price going down doesn't disturb me

Marc Faber : I have argued for the last 12 years that investors should buy a little bit of physical gold every month and put it aside without concerns about corrections. If you don't own any gold, I would start buying some right away, keeping in mind that it could go down.

For the last 40 years in my business I've seen people always lose money when they put too much money into something and then it goes down. They panic and sell, or they have a margin call to sell—and lose money. I own gold. It's my biggest position in my life. The possibility of the gold price going down doesn't disturb me. Every bull market has corrections.

Gold will probably peak next year because of improving U.S. growth

....Gold will probably peak next year because of improving U.S. growth, even as the Fed expands stimulus, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. said in a Dec. 5 report. It still expects an average of $1,750 in 2014. The drop of as much as 8.9 percent since Oct. 5 pushed gold below its 200-day moving average last week for the first time since August. Prices slid almost 10 percent in seven weeks after falling below the measure in March. The 14-day relative-strength index (MXWD) was at 31.8 yesterday, near the level of 30 that indicates to some analysts who study such charts that a gain in prices may be imminent.- via Bloomberg

Jim Rogers : Gold Correction may not be Over Yet - Be Cautious

Jim Rogers turned cautious about Gold in a recent CNBC interview "Just be careful, there're too many bulls, including me, but I'm very cautious," Rogers told CNBC. "Gold is having a correction— it's been correcting for 15-16 months now— which is normal in my view, and it's possible that [the] correction is going to continue for a while longer.""Most things correct 30 percent every year or two, even in big bull markets – 30 percent corrections are normal and yet gold has only done that once in the past 12 years," Rogers said. "Gold on any kind of historic market basis is overdue for a nice correction.""India's got a big balance of trade deficit – some Indian politicians are starting to blame it on gold," Rogers said. "[If they] figure out a way to cut or crimp imports of gold – if something like that happens, that will be a big shock to all those bulls on gold and who knows how low it can go.""If gold goes down – I hope I'm smart enough to buy more. If it goes down a lot, I hope I'm smart enough to buy a lot more," he said.
