Real Panic Coming from the Top of the Oligarchy

The trans-Atlantic financial oligarchy is in a state of panic, and it is not because of the U.S. government shutdown or even the prospect of a U.S. default if the Congress fails to raise the debt ceiling by Oct. 17. The panic is due to the fact that the whole system is coming down at breath-taking speed and there is nothing they can do about it within the confines of the current system. Christine Lagarde gave an interview to the Financial Times on the eve of the annual Fall meeting of the IMF/World Bank, in which she made clear that the situation is one of earth-shattering change and immense fragility. She warned that any further talk about "tapering" the quantitative easing by the Fed would be enough to set off a panic-crash of developing sector markets, and she warned that a failure to extend the debt ceiling would be catastrophic.

Lagarde's hysterics were matched by Jack Lew, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, who issued a dire warning on the Department's website, declaring that any default would trigger a crisis far worse than the Great Recession of 2008. Lew spent Thursday roaming the halls of Congress to personally deliver his ultimatum. Speaker of the House John Boehner pulled together a meeting of the House Republican Caucus on Thursday to announce to all that there would not be a default. He reported, according to the Washington Post, that he would be drafting a bill to extend the debt ceiling that would aim to draw bipartisan support, even if it triggered a revolt by Tea Party and other conservative Republicans.

One senior Japanese financial official warned that a major European financial crisis will begin immediately after Merkel completes her coalition talks in Germany to form a new government.

The same message of not-so-quiet desperation was delivered directly to President Obama by the Wall Street delegation that invaded the White House on Wednesday. According to a source close to the National Security Council, Obama was told in no uncertain terms that the quantitative easing had to continue indefinitely at the $85 billion-a-month level, with no talk about reductions. They also demanded that the White House ensure that there be no regulatory bite to Dodd-Frank and, above all else, that there be no Glass-Steagall. Even though both Summers and Geithner have run away from taking the job of Fed chairman, the Wall Street desperados demanded that the President choose a replacement for Bernanke who is reliably in their pocket and won't make any waves.

This week, the eleven largest U.S. banks submitted their "living wills" to the Fed and FDIC. In each case, the big banks swore that they were bailout-proof under the worst of financial crises, due to vast reserves of cash and easily liquidated securities they are sitting on. Clearly, Jack Lew and the Treasury Department are not so sanguine. The Treasury alert about the consequences of a Federal government default warned that even a brief default would cause a freeze of credit markets, a collapse of the dollar, and a spike in interest rates — all the ingredients of a systemic breakdown far worse than 2008.

Biography

Since 1976, Marrs has taught a course on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy at the University of Texas at Arlington. In 1989, his book, Crossfire: The Plot That Killed Kennedy, was published and reached the New York Times Paperback Non-Fiction Best Seller list in mid-February 1992. It became a basis for the Oliver Stone film JFK. Marrs served as a chief consultant for both the film's screenplay and production,Crossfire: The Plot That Killed Kennedy.

Beginning in 1992, Marrs spent three years researching and completing a non-fiction book on a top-secret government program called the Stargate Project involving the psychic phenomenon known as remote viewing, only to have the program canceled as it was going to press in the summer of 1995. Within two months, the story of military-developed remote viewing broke nationally in the Washington Post after the CIA revealed the program.

In May 1997, Marrs' investigation of UFOs, Alien Agenda, was published by HarperCollins Publishers. Publishers Weekly described Alien Agenda as "the most entertaining and complete overview of flying saucers and their crew in years." The paperback edition was released in mid-1998. It has been translated into several foreign languages and become the top-selling UFO book in the world.

In early 2000, HarperCollins published Rule by Secrecy, which claimed to trace a hidden history connecting modern secret societies to ancient and medieval times. This book also reached the New York Times Best Seller list. In 2003, his book The War on Freedom probed the alleged conspiracies of the 9/11 attacks and their aftermath. It was released in 2006 under the title The Terror Conspiracy.

Marrs has been a featured speaker at a number of national conferences including the annual International UFO Congress and the annual Gulf Breeze UFO Conference, but he also speaks at local conferences, such as Conspiracy Con and The Bay Area UFO Expo.[8] Beginning in 2000, he began teaching a course on UFOs at the University of Texas at Arlington. Marrs usually also gives a book signing at Brave New Books in Austin, Texas at least once a year.

Marrs has appeared on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, C-SPAN, The Discovery Channel, TLC, The History Channel, This Morning America, Geraldo, The Montel Williams Show, Today, TechTV, Larry King (with George Noory), and Art Bell radio programs, as well as numerous national and regional radio and TV shows.

Rush Limbaugh on Government Shutdown: Media is 'Hammering' Republicans but We Are Still 'Winning'

10/4/13 - Rush Limbaugh found further proof that "the Democrats are losing" and "we are winning" when it comes to the government shutdown in the form of the hot mic moment that caught Senators Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Rand Paul (R-KY) expressing optimism about the outcome for Republicans. "I'm telling you, I know it's hard for you to believe," Limbaugh told his listeners after playing audio of the exchange. "If you just look at the media every day it's hard to believe. You look at the media and think the Republicans are just getting hammered and hammered." But Limbaugh was evidently heartened by the comments from McConnell and Paul, predicting that rhetoric from Democrats will backfire.

"Barack Obama was elected because he was gonna end all of this," Limbaugh said of the stalemate in Washington. "No matter who was to blame for the bickering, Obama was a new kind of politician. Obama was gonna end it. Obama was gonna bring unity and comity and universal respect and get rid of all the old politics and bring on the new politics and everybody just gets along. Remember? And it's gotten worse than many people can remember it ever being, given their ages."

He did take a moment to commend whoever it was in the White House who decided to cancel Obama's trip to Asia. "If he'd gone ahead with this trip and had been seen negotiating with those guys, the ChiComs and whoever else he was gonna meet," Limbaugh said, "but refuses to sit down and talk to the Republicans who he's characterizing in very disparaging terms it would not have looked good, and the optics are what these people care about."

U.S. Failure To Lift Debt Ceiling Could Damage World Says IMF

Failure to raise the U.S. debt ceiling could damage not only the United States but the rest of the global economy, International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde said on Thursday (October 3).

"It is 'mission-critical' that this be resolved as soon as possible," she said in a speech in Washington, ahead of the IMF and World Bank annual meetings next week.

She said growth in the United States has already been hurt by too much fiscal consolidation, and will be below 2 percent this year before rising by about 1 percentage point in 2014.

The U.S. Congress imposed a so-called sequester, or across the board government spending cuts, earlier this year after failing to agree on a broad budget package.

Turning to the rest of the world, Lagarde pointed to signs of progress in the euro zone and Japan, but said transitions to more stable growth may take a while. The turbulence could reduce GDP in major emerging markets by 0.5 to 1 percentage points, she said.

Lagarde said emerging markets have suffered since the U.S. Federal Reserve announced plans to eventually scale back its own monetary stimulus, which prompted capital outflows as investors bet on higher rates in advanced economies.

Speaking to her audience in broader terms, Lagarde said that five years after the world averted a "second Great Depression," economies are undergoing "multiple new transitions" that may take a decade or longer for many countries to adjust to before there is a full recovery.

She said two kinds of economic transitions stand out in particular -- changes in the patterns of economic growth and a move toward a new kind of financial sector.

"The new rules are changing the economics of banking," said Lagarde. "It is likely that some of the largest banking institutions will not do as much by way of financing infrastructure projects, for instance, or project financing or mortgage lending."

Finally, Lagarde called on governments to better work together on reforming the financial sector, calling progress too slow, partly due to divergences among different countries. She pointed in particular to the "danger zone" of shadow banking, or the non-banking sector that is not under formal regulation.

In the United States, shadow banking is twice the size of the banking sector, and in China half the credit given this year has come from shadow banking, she said.

Rush Limbaugh: Dana Bash Was on Harry Reid's Side Before He Insulted Her

10/3/13 - Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh dug into controversial comments made by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) on Wednesday in response to a question from CNN reporter Dana Bash. Reid called Bash "irresponsible" and "reckless" after asking if the Senate would pass a special bill to restore funding to the National Institutes of Health amid a government shutdown. Limbaugh asserted that Bash, who was sympathetic to Reid's position, was made less so by the senator's comment.

"The House is presumably going to pass a bill that funds at least the NIH. Given what you've said, will you at least pass that?" Bash asked in the question which set Reid off. "And if not, aren't you playing the same political games that Republicans are?"

"Even in her question, she savaged the Republicans," Limbaugh said. "The premise is that Republicans were playing political games with the lives of children. How much more biased could you get?"

"She is totally on his side throughout this question, except when she says 'If you can help one child who has cancer why wouldn't you do that?'" the host continued.

Limbaugh mocked Bash breaking down in tears after being admonished by Reid for asking the question she did. He added that Reid's "meanness" and "heartlessness" came naturally to him.

"The media tells everybody that it's the Republicans who have no heart, it's the Republicans who hate women -- war on women, kids, minorities, you name it -- it's the Republicans who are trying to fund these programs after the Democrats shut this whole process down," Limbaugh insisted.

He played a clip of Reid telling liberal radio host Bill Press that the trap the GOP had set for him was to fund every aspect of the government separately in order to remove funding from the Affordable Care Act.

"This is a mean, vindictive, partisan little man," Limbaugh declared.
