Any law that would confiscate guns from law-abiding citizens would be unconstitutional being an 'ex post facto' law. Even if a type of gun is made illegal to own, anyone who legally got that gun before the new law

was in place would have the right to keep it. Gun confiscation in that instance would be akin to reinstating prohibition and then taking away all alcohol that was legally purchased. In other words, an 'ex post facto' law is one that makes instant criminals of citizens.
