Collapse, directed by Chris Smith, is an American documentary film exploring the theories, writings and life story of controversial author Michael Ruppert. Collapse premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2009 to positive reviews.

Ruppert, a former Los Angeles police officer who describes himself as an investigative reporter and radical thinker, has authored books on the events of the September 11 attacks and of energy issues. Critics[who?] call him a conspiracy theorist and an alarmist.
Director Smith interviewed Ruppert over the course of fourteen hours in an interrogation-like setting in an abandoned warehouse basement meat locker near downtown Los Angeles. Ruppert's interview was shot over five days throughout March and April 2009. The filmmakers distilled these interviews down to this 82 minute monologue with archival footage interspersed as illustration.
The title refers to Ruppert's belief that unsustainable energy and financial policies have led to an ongoing collapse of modern industrial civilization.
The film does not overtly take a perspective on the validity of Ruppert's positions[citation needed] and critics have alternatingly described the film as supportive and as critical of Ruppert's views. Gold ignores Fed minutes in favor of China data

Everyone was clearly convinced the Fed was going to provide, with absolute clarity, what they were thinking in regard to tapering. This is despite them failing to do so every other time markets thought they might do just this.

Obviously the FOMC minutes did not provide any further clues as to when the bond buying program might be scaled back. The general sentiment of the board was that more data was required and, for some, that it might be too soon to begin tapering. Despite this many believe the minutes indicated that the Fed ‘remained on track’ to scale back purchases should conditions remain the same.

The gold price didn’t really care, before or after the release. In the run-up to the minutes it fluctuated between gains and losses and post-release it originally gained in the first few minutes but then fell very slightly. The SPDR Gold Trust gained 0.5%, despite seeing outflows.

Prior to the FOMC minutes, volumes of the Shanghai Gold Exchange climbed to 10,926kg for gold of 99.99 percent purity, their highest level since August 2nd.

Manning was found guilty on virtually all other charges under the Espionage Act, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and the code of military justice. The verdict left him facing a maximum 136 years; Lind later found the government had overcharged Manning and reduced that number to 90 years. Within the military justice system, Colonel Lind does not have to explain the reasoning behind Manning's sentence. She did not.
