The World is on the verge of a Thermonuclear WW3 in Syria

US President Barack Obama is reported to be reviewing a response to an alleged chemical "massacre" in Syria.

Obama is under mounting pressure to act following reports of a massive chemical attack near Damascus on Wednesday that opposition groups say was carried out by President Bashar al-Assad's forces and had killed as many as 1,300 people.

While Obama is considering his options UN official was pressing Damascus for an investigation into the allegations.

The Syrian government has strongly denied those allegations, but has yet to accede to demands that UN inspectors already in the country be allowed to visit the sites of the alleged attacks.

"An army unit is surrounding a sector of Jobar where terrorists used chemical weapons," the state broadcaster said today, adding that soldiers who tried to enter the neighbourhood had "suffocated''.

As Defence Secretary Chuck suggested the US Navy was moving forces closer to Syria, Obama met his top national security advisors to discuss the response to the alleged use of chemical weapons, a White House official said.

"We have a range of options available, and we are going to act very deliberately so that we're making decisions consistent with our national interest as well as our assessment of what can advance our objectives in Syria," the official said.

On Friday, Hagel said his department "has a responsibility to provide the president with options for all contingencies," which includes "positioning our forces...to be able to carry out different options - whatever the president might choose."

But he declined to provide any details on the deployment of those forces, as the Obama administration reportedly contemplated cruise missile strikes against Assad's forces.

The New York Times cited a senior administration official as saying Washington was looking at NATO's air war over Kosovo in 1999 as a blueprint for strikes on Syria without a UN mandate.

Obama had repeatedly warned that the use of chemical weapons by Syrian forces was a "red line" that could bring about a more strident Western response to the 29-month-old civil war.

But he has also said Washington must be wary of costly and difficult foreign interventions.

Damascus ally Iran blamed the rebels and warned the West against any military intervention.

"There is proof terrorist groups carried out this action," foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Araqchi said, without giving any details.

Warning against any Western military intervention in the conflict, Araqchi said "there is no international authorisation for" such action.

Meanwhile, UN Under Secretary General Angela Kane was in Damascus, tasked by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon with establishing the terms of an inquiry.

Ban is determined to "conduct a thorough, impartial and prompt investigation" into the chemical attack claims, his spokesman said.

In statements published today, German Chancellor Angela Merkel accused Russia and China of having blocked a UN text demanding the inspectors be given unfettered access.

One year ago, Obama warned the use of chemical weapons in Syria would cross a "red line" and have "enormous consequences".

The United Nations says more than 100,000 people have been killed in Syria since an uprising against Assad's rule flared in March 2011, while millions more have fled the country or been internally displaced.

The violence continued Saturday, with a watchdog accusing the regime of striking by air several rebel positions, including in Jobar, and reporting that insurgents seized a strategic town in the northwest.

State television said an army unit was surrounding a "sector of Jobar where terrorists used chemical weapons," adding that soldiers who tried to enter the neighbourhood had "suffocated."

Rebels have "resorted to chemical weapons after the successes of the Syrian army in recent days," the television charged.

So Assad decides to launch a chemical attack on his own people close to where he is living while UN chemical weapons inspectors are in the country???

Sorry, but I don't buy it.
Maybe if Obama and the United States Government would stop snooping on it's own people and concentrate on the satellite pictures of missiles being transported and loaded some of this could have been avoided.
Where in the heck is the U.N. and why does the U.S. have to police the Middle East.
One in the U.S. cannot even fart without it being recorded - now come on someone saw this coming, you can't send scud missiles with chemical weapons without satellites picking up movement..............some of these big $hits had to have known ahead of time - nothing happens "by chance".
Obama is setting us up for more of a bloodbath.
My heart goes out to the innocent men, women and children that now lay dead, poisoned by gas (not a pleasant way to go).

The ever-expanding role of government in healthcare provides an excellent example of Ludwig Von Mises' warning that "The Middle of the Road Leads to Socialism." Beginning in the 1940s, government policies distorted the health care market, causing prices to rise and denying many Americans access to quality care. Congress reacted to the problems caused by their prior interventions with new interventions, such as the HMO Act, ERISA, EMTLA, and various federal entitlement programs. Each new federal intervention not only failed to fix the problems it was supposedly created to solve, it created new problems, leading to calls for even more new federal interventions. This process culminated in 2010, when Congress passed Obamacare.

Contrary to the claims of some of its opponents, Obamacare is not socialized medicine. It is corporatized medicine. After all, the central feature of Obamacare is the mandate that all Americans buy health insurance from private health insurance companies. And, as with previous government interventions in the marketplace, Obamacare is not only failing to correct the problems caused by prior federal laws, it is creating new problems.

Consider the almost weekly stories about how Obamacare is causing health insurance premiums to rise, causing employees to lay off workers or reduce their workers' hours, and causing doctors to leave the profession. Also, consider the problems the administration is already having administering the federal exchanges and other parts of the health care law.

I fully expect the implosion of Obamacare to continue, and the supporters of nationalized health care to use Obamacare's failures to push for a Canadian-style "single payer" health care system. Unfortunately, some Obamacare opponents fail to see that the problem is not just Obamacare, but all government interference with health care. These Obamacare opponents advocate replacing Obamacare with "Obamacare lite." But economic law teaches us that "Obamacare lite" will be no more successful than Obamacare.

In order to win the battle for health freedom, those who oppose nationalized health care must have the courage to advocate for a complete free market in health care. Enhanced individual tax credits and enhanced use of Health Savings Accounts (HSA) are just two polices that could help restore a free-market in health care by putting control over the health care dollar back in the hands of the people. A good place to start would be to repeal Obamacare's restrictions on HSAs.

Long-term group insurance contracts could ensure that those with pre-existing conditions could obtain coverage. Under such a contract, individuals could pool resources to purchase a group policy that would cover any and all problems any member might develop over time. Businesses, churches, community organizations, and even fraternities and sororities could offer these types of contracts.

Negative outcomes insurance, where patients waive the right to sue for medical errors in exchange for guaranteed payouts to those harmed, could reduce the burden of malpractice litigation.

Other free-market health care reforms that could make the health care market more competitive and lower the cost of health care include allowing individuals to purchase insurance from across state lines, removing restrictions on physician-owned hospitals, and reducing the regulatory power of the Food and Drug Administration.

Some will say it is unrealistic to advocate replacing Obamacare with a pure free-market system, but in fact it is unrealistic to expect anything less than a true free-market to provide quality health care for Americans at all income levels. Continuing on the "middle of the road" in health care by mixing free-markets with government spending and regulations will only continue to take us on the road to socialized health care.

Global media news companies export information through news, radio, and internet. This creates a mostly one-way flow of information, and exposure of mostly western products and values. Companies like CNN, Reuters, and the BBC dominate the global airwaves while having a particular western point of view. Other media news companies such as Al Jazeera may offer a different point of view, but have a far smaller audience and thus effect fewer people in influence.

the US is 'mystery Babylon' in Revelation. The US will fall because of her sins which have piled up as high as heaven. The Lord has taken His protection away from her as He has warned many people of this these last few months and years.The miscalculations here are compounding. The political elite in Washington still view Russian military capabilites about as they were in 1990 because they haven't fielded any major vessels, heavy aircraft or things of that nature. The problem is the reason the Russians haven't built any large vessels or lumbering aircraft is because they are way ahead of us in developing and testing hypersonic delivery systems. I don't know whether they have fielded them or not. Certainly not to foreigners but how well integrated into their armed forces these systems are I have no idea. If a friggate or destroyer in the Med carrying the ship to ship variants comes under attack and releases those weapons that could be a major problem as the Americans would then have to explain how several of their surface ships possibly including a carrier went missing along with virtually the entire crews. These people make me ill and I can easily see how they are going to get us all killed just like when they started WWI with their miscuculations and hubris. It's virtually the same actors this time around as well only the Brits are not in the lead thank God or the war would have commenced already. Also the bloodthirsty, beligerence being displayed by the French is surprising to me. The house of Saud is behaving very, very, badly and is the root of the problem. In my opinion of course. All I know for sure is that it does not look at all good. Like a recurring bad dream.

Fed Chair Ben Bernanke et al. will speak tomorrow, as well. Then the paper price of silver gets smashed overnight by some entity with enough weight to push around a far too thin market.
